EDU 615 Technology Applications for School Districts

Before looking at this week's assignment, I did not know anything about the CoSN organization and never had been to their website.  After looking at their website, I have learned that is it a useful website that I can refer back to for multiple different things.  One of the first things I found when looking at the website was the empowering superintendents portion of the website.  From what I gathered from looking at this portion of the website, they have webinars that provides important information that superintendents need to make sure schools are using technology properly and protecting students data and other things.  I thought this portion of the website is useful for me that it provides training opportunities for me to make sure our school district is using the technology appropriately.   Another thing that I thought was very useful from this website was the ideas they have to provide equity to the students in the school districts in regards to techno...

When looking at multiple school websites of different school districts in South Dakota, it was obvious that websites are very important for school districts.  One of the first things that I noticed about the Sioux Falls school website was the color coding they had for the stage or phase they are in for COVID in each of their buildings.  This is a really nice feature that allows parents at all times to understand what is going on in each building in the district in regards to COVID.  The Harrisburg school website was really well put together and was aesthetically pleasing.  I also really enjoyed the alumni page.  I do not know this for sure, but I am guessing that they have a communications director or someone who their job is to literally take care of the website and probably not much else, where at Eureka, if I brought that up to the school board they would literally laugh at me and think I am joking.  Finally, the Brandon Valley website was another websit...

For this unit, we had to watch three videos and talk about what we learned from them. When watching the video "What is the Value of a Teacher", I learned quite a few things. When he starts talking about how to use google properly, I did not know anything about what he was saying. In addition, I agree that teachers need to change the assignments to meet the standards of today and the use of the internet compared to the same assignments that teachers have given before the internet started. I also thought the use of the prism website was a cool idea to show classmates that the majority of them think the same thing and it is not too scary to talk during the class. Finally, I thought the idea of connecting globally was a pretty cool idea. The teacher in Moose Jaw having the children in Vietnam teach her children how to build a video camera is a great idea.
