Unit 3: CoSN
Before looking at this week's assignment, I did not know anything about the CoSN organization and never had been to their website. After looking at their website, I have learned that is it a useful website that I can refer back to for multiple different things. One of the first things I found when looking at the website was the empowering superintendents portion of the website. From what I gathered from looking at this portion of the website, they have webinars that provides important information that superintendents need to make sure schools are using technology properly and protecting students data and other things. I thought this portion of the website is useful for me that it provides training opportunities for me to make sure our school district is using the technology appropriately.
Another thing that I thought was very useful from this website was the ideas they have to provide equity to the students in the school districts in regards to technology. They have multiple different documents that you can access to determine how you can provide equitable technology services to all students. It is not a good situation if teachers are sending home homework that needs to be done on computers with the internet when there will be families in the district that do not have internet. The website provides some things that some schools are doing to provide equitable services such as putting wifi in the busses. This would be something for the technology committee to look at to try and determine if we needed to do this for our district. Another useful thing for the technology committee to look at would be the total cost of ownership to determine what needs to be upgraded in the building along with how much it would cost to upgrade that equipment. Overall this website could be used by all staff in the school district to do some trainings on how to use technology in the classroom along with administration in order to help make informed decisions on technology.
You did a nice job of highlighting some of the great resources on this website. I like the total cost of ownership concept, so leaders think about the ongoing costs of technology purchases such as training, support and replacement costs. And of course, equity is important for all school leaders to think about.
