Unit 9: Technology and School Leaders
When looking at the different information on these websites, I found many different things that are important to the success of technology in schools. My favorite website of the three is the department of education website. They provide many different ideas and concepts about technology and school leaders. These topics include collaborative leadership, personalized student learning, infrastructure, open communication, personalized professional learning, budgeting, reducing costs, using federal funds, and other pieces of information. The website is a very good resource with piles of information that can be used for school leaders and their push for technology in schools.
One of the pieces of information that I think will be most useful is the personalized professional learning. Typically, whenever we have had professional development, we have typically just had someone providing it on a certain topic, which is not the end of the world, but not all staff benefits from it. If we personalized the professional development, then each teacher would benefit from what they choose from. This is actually something my technology coordinator and I talked about was having staff members find an online course from tie and requiring the teachers to complete one of their choosing by a certain date. This would give the teachers the ability to pick what they want for professional development and get some credits or CEU hours as well. The other piece of information that I really think was beneficial was understanding the use of federal funds and how they can be applied to technology in the building. I know my business manager talks about how we use from federal funds on technology, but it is good to understand that we can use the federal funds on these types of things.
